Thiruvananthapuram: Alathur MP-elect Remya Haridas is on cloud nine after Priyanka Gandhi Vadra shared a video on the meteoric rise of the village girl from an impoverished family.

It had more than 112,000 views, 10,000 likes and 1158 shares in less than a day.

It looks like Ms Haridas has been hogging the limelight ever since she trounced CPM's two-time MP P. K. Biju in her maiden parliamentary election battle. Daughter of a daily wages worker, Ms Haridas started her career as a trainer in a local NGO for a monthly pay of Rs 600, says the video the AICC general secretary posted.

In 2011, she met Rahul Gandhi through a talent search program he started in Kerala. Then she became a national office bearer of Indian Youth Congress and worked diligently for the party.

The video, which also shows her crooning skills, says Mr Gandhi had acted against the advice of his colleagues and other political heavyweights to give the ticket to her.

It concludes, "Remya is the only woman parliamentarian from Kerala today, and we are proud of her".

On last Saturday after the first parliamentary party meeting in New Delhi, Ms Vadra had bumped into Ms Haridas.

She had then gushed at Remya and exclaimed, "Hey Remya, I know you" which led the shutterbugs gathered there and other parliamentarians from the State to click photos of the two cosying up to each other on their mobile phones.
