Per capita income of people is Rs 89000 in Amaravati

AMARAVATI: The per capita income of people in the capital city of Amaravati is very low compared to other capital cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi and others. Further, the gross domestic product of AP Capital Region is only $12 billion against $74 billion of Hyderabad.

The CRDA revealed details about the population, income and others in Amaravati Fact Book. According to Fact Book, the per capita income of AP capital region is very low, Rs 89,000 only, compared to Rs 3.29 lakh of Hyderabad.

The gateway of Amaravati, Tadepalli, is on top in population growth with 88 per cent, in Guntur, it is 58 per cent, followed by Vijayawada with 47 per cent. Interestingly, only Ponnur in Guntur district registered only 10 per cent growth in population.

Tadepalli, situated near the Prakasam barrage, has good road and rail connectivity with all areas. Though famous as a commercial hub and called Andhra Paris since decades, Tenali registered only 15 per cent population growth and old Ponnuru, only 10 per cent.

The Amaravati capital region was divided into 8 zones spread in 8,603 sq km area ,with 2 municipal corporations, Guntur and Vijayawada, 10 municipalities with 953 revenue villages. Further, the Seed Capital of Amaravati city, spread in 217 sq km, occupies three revenue mandals. There has been immigration into Amaravati, in large numbers, hoping availability of works, business and employment opportunities.

Quoting McKinsey, the consultant agency which conducted the survey, the CRDA said there has been an annual growth of 17 per cent in the primary sector, 10 per cent in the secondary sector and 9 per cent in the tertiary sector. Though the per capita income in Amaravati is low when compared with other capital cities in the country, the income has been increasing gradually in the last three years.

The per capita income of Amaravati is Rs 74,303 in 2012 which increased to Rs 78,873 the next year and now, it touched Rs 89,039. However, the Rs 89,039 per capita income of Amaravati is the lowest, in comparison with any capital city in India. CM Chandrababu Naidu is trying to build a world-class capital city but poverty is haunting Amaravati.

In Tadepalli, over 28 per cent of the population is living in slums and 33 per cent in Mangalagiri. Almost all the 29 villages, in the capital region, have slums. Financial expert N. Surendra said growth was visible in Amaravati, only after announcement of capital.
