India has seen a significant rise in incidence of fraud, cyber and security related incidents over the last 12 months, which according to a private survey is higher than the global average.

Hyderabad: The state government is likely to order an inquiry by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) into the re-registration fraud unearthed at the Bandlaguda Road Transport Authority.

The staff had committed irregularities in the registration of re-sale vehicles to the tune of Rs 2 crore. A five-member team headed by RTO Ranga Reddy and M. Praveen Rao is going through the files at the RTA Bandlaguda.

The probe was recommended after reports of a syndicate comprising RTA staff and a few brokers had caused a huge loss to the government in reworking the purchase value of vehicles.

Joint commissioner, transport, Panduranga Naik said about 20 persons were shifted out of the office. “The probe is underway and the documents are being verified.”

RTA staff along with a few brokers had brought down the resale value of the vehicles purchased in other states and collected less tax. “It was found that full tax amount was collected from the people while a lower purchase value was shown in the records,” said an official. The Government is expected to hand over the case to the CID as some more discrepancies are also noticed.
