Karnataka: Truckers intensify stir as Centre, IRDA refuse to meet demands

The state government has directed the KSRTC to allow farmers to use buses to transport their agricultural products.

Bengaluru: The indefinite strike by truck owners, against steep hike in insurance charges and tolls on national highways, entered the seventh day on Thursday. With both the Union Government and Insurance Regulatory Development Authority (IRDA) declining to fulfill their demands, the truck owners, taxi association members are holding protest meetings across south India. In Bengaluru, they are holding protest in Freedom Park.

The state government has directed the KSRTC to allow farmers to use buses to transport their agricultural products.According to a decision taken by the KSRTC, due to ongoing truck  strike.

The transport corporation has directed all its 15  divisional offices to provide required number of buses as and when required by district authorities. “On Wednesday, in Bengaluru jurisdiction, around 20 buses were provided to transport essential commodities from Whitefield sector,” officials informed.
