Karnataka speaker snubs Jagadish Shettar on media panel

Bengaluru: Reacting sharply to opposition leader Jagadish Shettar's statement that the Speaker had not consulted him before setting up the House committee to regulate the media, Speaker K.B. Koliwad said  it was his prerogative to form the House committee on any issue.

Speaking to reporters  on Thursday, Mr Koliwad said that he did not need anyone's permission to set up a House committee. “It seems like realisation has dawned on Mr Shettar now. Many legislators in the Assembly had demanded that the committee be set up. It has been formed with good intentions, not to control or armtwist the media,'' Mr Koliwad said.He  disclosed that the report of the Lake Encroachment  Committee was ready.
