Hyderabad: Woman dies in fire at home

Police said the incident occurred while Anuradha was cooking.

Hyderabad: A 40-year-old housewife and her husband suffered burns in a fire accident at their house in Vikarabad district. Chedurupalli Anuradha, 40, died and Mallesh, 45, is battling for life. Police said the incident occurred while Anuradha was cooking. On Sunday, while Anuradha was cooking lunch, she sprinkled water on a container in which oil was boiling, resulting in the flame shooting up. A kerosene can kept near the stove caught fire. As the fire spread in seconds Anuradha could not escape. 

Hearing her screams, Mallesh who was watching television, rushed to the kitchen and tried to rescue her, but he was also caught in the fire. Anuradha died. Mallesh who suffered 60 per cent burns is critical. Neighbours said the couple used to fight and the incident could be an attempt by Mallesh to kill her. “In her dying declaration she said the incident happened while she was cooking,” SI G. Naresh said. Based on a complaint from Mallesh’s brother a suspicious death was registered. Their son was out playing when the incident happened.
