Fires at civic body office, Hitec City Metro station

The fire at GHMC office was caused due to the loose electrical wirings which were left unattended.

Hyderabad: A massive fire broke out in the GHMC central zone office at Khairatabad on Tuesday morning. The fire engulfed the first floor of the building and audit records, furnitures and computers were gutted in the fire.

Srinivas Reddy, Hyderabad fire control room in charge, said, “The fire was caused due to the loose electrical wirings which were left unattended. We have started a probe to find out more details.”

A local resident noticed the fire and alerted the fire control room. Two fire engines were deployed and it took three hours to control the fire.

In another incident, a minor fire broke out at Hitech City Metro station due to the ongoing welding works. However, workers were able to control the fire within ten minutes and no casualties were reported. 

Mr N.V.S. Reddy, managing director at Hyderabad Metro Rail, said, “The welding works led to the accident.”

About the fire safety measures at Metro station, the fire control room incharge said, “It is only after the works are completed, fire equipment are installed.”

A preliminary report into the cause of fire at Khairatabad zonal office has said that there was no damage to permanent files in the incident. It also said that CCTV footage did not suggest any human movement in the office when the fire broke out on Tuesday.
