Bengaluru: Demonetisation or no demonetisation, the love for vehicles in the state, especially Bengaluru, does not seem to ebb. Though vehicle sales, irrespective of segment, dipped across the country after demonetisation, they continued to rise in Karnataka, especially Bengaluru.

According to the latest data released by the state Transport Department, in November last year, 1,24,771 vehicles were registered with a daily average of 5,000 registrations across the state. In Bengaluru, 45,970 vehicles were registered that month with a daily average of 1,575.

Officials at the Transport Department said that these figures clearly show that the number of vehicles being bought in the city and across the state has not gone down despite demonetisation.

“The number of vehicles registered in November last year is more than those registered in September. In October too, a large number of new vehicles were registered because of the festival offers,” explained an officer from the department.

“Among the newly registered vehicles, bikes and cars were in majority. The first couple of days after demonetisation, vehicle dealers did not see any enquiries. But soon, the situation returned to normal,” he said.

A car showroom manager, who wished not to be identified, said that the people were given attractive offers. “Also, payments for vehicles are generally made through cheques and online payment transfer. That was the reason there was not much impact on the vehicle sales,” he said.
