Visakhapatnam: Cyclone Michaung has reduced the rain deficit in Andhra Pradesh to 20.64 per cent in Andhra Pradesh. The heavy rains have increased water levels in various reservoirs of the state. The weathermen predicted that the state’s seasonal rain deficit will further be reduced on Thursday as the weather system is likely to trigger heavy rainfall in parts of Kakinada, Anakapalle, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Manyam and Srikakulam districts on Wednesday.

An IMD report said Andhra Pradesh had recorded 13 per cent deficient rainfall during the southwest monsoon from June 1 to September 30 this year. Further, from October 1 to November 27, the northeast monsoon period, the state received 80.6 mm rainfall against the normal rainfall of 255.6 mm during the period. This resulted in – 68 per cent departure. The IMD considered this a large deficient monsoon. However, the continuous heavy rains in Tirupati, Nellore, Bapatla, Prakasam, Krishna and few other districts due to cyclone Michaung on Monday and Tuesday has brought down Andhra Pradesh’s seasonal rain deficit by 36 per cent since October.
