Thanjavur: Court to try Pocso cases opened

Thanjavur: A court to try offences under the Protection of children from sexual offences act 2012 (Pocso) was inaugurated here at the Thanjavur court complex by Mr. Justice Sivagnanam, principal district judge, on Thursday.

He said that the court will help in expediting cases of crimes against children. He appealed to parents to teach children good values and good behaviour.

Mr. S.S. Maheswaran, Thanjavur district SP, said that 120 cases have been registered so far in this district under Pocso Act." In all the cases, charge-sheets have been filed in 60 days. Fourteen cases are pending. "The court for trying Pocso cases will help in expediting justice to children," Maheswaran said.
Additional district judges Mr. K .Karunanithi and Mr. R. Thangavel, Ms. M. Ezhilarasi, Judge dealing with Pocso cases, Ms. Sudha, sub-judge, Mr. Manoharan, government pleader, Mr. Kumaravel, president of the Thanjavur Bar Association and Mr. Keethiraj, secretary of the association were among those present on the occasion.
