Visakhapatnam: Several unemployed youths from across the district staged a protest without shirts at the Mahatma Gandhi statue on Wednesday demanding the state government fill more number of vacancies. They have also begged on the roads and displayed placards as part of their protest.

Though the government has issued a notification to fill 18,450 posts in various categories, the members of AP Unemployed Youth JAC claimed that it has the least number of posts when compared to earlier notifications of the APPSC.

S. Hemanth Kumar, state president of the JAC, demanded the government convene a Cabinet meeting immediately to discuss their issues and release a full-fledged notification with more number of posts. He also warned that state-wide protests will be held in case the government fails to do so.

The JAC members sought a mega DSC with 14,000 vacancies and recruitment of 10 pundits for each language per district.

While the APPSC announced filling up of 182 posts in Group-I category, 337 posts in Group-II, 1,670 posts in Group-III, the protesters want these posts increased to 300, 1,500 and 5,000 respectively. The JAC further insisted to continue Group-II exam in objective format by scrapping GO Nos. 622 and 623.
