New Delhi: Germany has backed India on surgical strikes in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), with its envoy Martin Ney saying that “every state has the right to defend itself against international terrorism.”

The envoy also said that “when it comes to countering terrorism, Germany stands side by side with its strategic partner India”. In a veiled reference to Pakistan, the German envoy said, “every state has the legal obligation to make sure that from the territory it controls, no terrorism emanates”.

It may be noted that Germany is the latest in a host of nations which have backed India in the wake of the surgical strikes following the Uri terror attack, marking another victory of the Modi Government’s diplomacy.

Earlier, after it asked lslamabad to take “effective” steps to stop the activities of terrorist groups on its territory, Russia on Monday had said it “welcomes” the surgical strike by India as every country has a right to defend itself.
