Hyderabad: Protest to continue next week

Hyderabad: With the advocates of the several courts in Telangana including the High Court continuing their protest for the third day, demanding the re-call of the proposal to transfer Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar to the Punjab and Haryana High Court as a junior Judge, the services at the courts came to a standstill.

The advocates, who initially wanted to hold protests till Saturday, may also continue in the coming week if the proposal is not re-called.

On the third day of the protests, members of the Telangana High Court Bar Association (THCBA), and also those working at district courts and in other lower courts took out rallies carrying placards demanding the revocation of the transfer proposal.

The advocates of THCBA had on Tuesday unanimously resolved to stay away from court duties and also asked their counterparts in the districts across the state to take part in the protests and abstain from court, against the Supreme Court Collegium’s proposal to transfer Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar and placing him as a junior judge, instead of promoting him as a Chief Justice from Telangana state.

The THCBA also decided to file a Public Interest Litigation before the Supreme Court, with regards to the transfer and appointments of the Judges.

On Thursday, the advocates said that their agitation was not to interfere in judicial administration but, was against the methods adopted by the Collegium in the transfer issue.

Meanwhile, THCBA President T. Surya Karan Reddy, Secretaries Tera Rajanikanth Reddy, Sudarshan Malugari and senior counsels Desai Prakash Reddy, L. Ravi Chander, S. Ravi, S. Niranjan Reddy, M.S Prasad met Chief Justice of India, Justice Ranjan Gogoi, and Union Law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad at New Delhi and gave a representation requesting them to reconsider the issue and take necessary action.

The advocates of Telangana also received support from the advocates practicing at the Andhra Pradesh High Court in Amaravathi who decided to boycott court duties on Friday.
