Karur: Class 9 student rescued from 'Blue Whale Challenge' game trap

The Blue Whale-addicted student who is tech-savvy is familiar with the operation of his tablet personal computer.

After the Blue Whale Challenge became controversial and the unnatural deaths of some youngsters in the state are being linked to it, the students who played it are really scared to admit it.

Karur: A class 9 student was given counselling on the online game ‘Blue Whale’  and the event caused some tense moments both at his school and his residence near Karur on Tuesday.

Police said the 14-year-old boy from Semangi village under Velayuthampalayam police limits is studying in a Government aided school at Aranganathanpettai.

The school headmaster got details of the student getting addicted to the Blue Whale game after his classmates who got know about it informed the class teacher.

The Blue Whale-addicted student who is tech-savvy is familiar with the operation of his tablet personal computer. He got know about the game when he had gone to his uncle Prakash's house, where he download the game from the mobile phone of a friend of his uncle through Hot spot and upload the same into his tablet PC, police added.

On completion of the first stage of the game, the student cut his palm. On completion of the second stage of the game, he jumped from four feet height road level bridge, near his residence. On completion of the third stage of the game, he was asked to walk on the railway track.

At this stage, the student was overcome by fright and deleted the game from his tablet P C, police said.

Initially, Prabhu, Sub-Inspector of Police, Velayuthampalayam had counselled the student and subsequently he was handed over to the Child welfare protection office at Karur, where the students was given counselling on Tuesday. The student is now completely free of addiction and cheerful, according to official sources.
