Farmers to move SC against house sites to non-locals in Amaravati

Vijayawada: Farmers from Amaravati will move the Supreme Court seeking a stay order on AP High Court’s recent order allowing the state government to allot house sites to the poor by setting up a separate R5 Zone.

As the High Court had dismissed interlocutory applications filed by the farmers to annul GO 45 on R5 Zone and also the gazette notification making modifications in the Amaravati Master Plan, the farmers have resolved to file a special leave petition in the apex court. The farmers’ are apprehensive at the allotment of house sites to the economically weaker sections and poor people from outside the capital region in Amaravati towards which as the state government issued an order to hand over 1,134 acres of land to the district collectors of Guntur and NTR allotting house sites to the poor in Amaravati.

Meanwhile, advocate and founder of Jai Bheem Access Justice Jada Sravan Kumar expressed his intent to implead in the Amaravati farmers’ petition in the apex court. He said that if the farmers from other areas were given house sites at Amaravati, it would cause a lot of injustice to the local farmers belonging to SC and ST communities. He said that the state government has no rights on the land acquired through land pooling at Amaravati from local farmers for building the capital city.

The R5 Zone, spanning 900 acres in the villages of Mandadam, Ainavolu, Mangalagiri, Krishnayapalem, Nidamarru, and Kuragallu, is intended to provide housing for non-locals and low-income residents.
