Hyderabad: Heatwave alert is on till May 7

Hyderabad: The heatwave alert has been extended by a day till Tuesday, May 7, by the Indian Meteorological Department. The alert is already prevailed in place for Monday.

On Sunday, Khammam recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state of 45.2ºC. The mercury stood at 41.5ºC in the city.

According to the IMD, heatwave conditions very likely to prevail in isolated pockets in the districts of Adilabad, Komaram Bheem, Nirmal, Jagtial, Mancherial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Nalgonda, Warangal and others till May 7.

Experts suggested a range of precautions to fight the heat:
Try to stay in cool places or in the shade
Use umbrella during the day
Wear thin, loose cotton garments, preferably in white
Wear a hat of cotton material or a turban
Avoid outdoor physical activity from 12 noon to 3 pm. Do not take up physical activity during these hours.
Take butter milk, lassi, phundia water, sweet and salt lime juice and opt for home-made juices.
Take measures to reduce room temperature by using window shades, fanning and implementing cross ventilation.

In case of a heat stroke:
Patient must be sponged with cold water, indirect application of ice-packs.
Shift the person immediately to hospital

Don’ts:
Do not expose the body to direct sunlight or hot breeze.
Do not use black, synthetic and thick clothes
Do not indulge in strenuous physical activity under the hot sun.
Do not directly sit in your car if it is parked in the heat. Open all doors and windows and let the hot air come out by waiting for a few minutes.
