Survey on for population register in Telangana

Hyderabad: The Telangana state government has issued notification to take up house-to-house enumeration in the GHMC area from to update the National Population Register, said GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy. The survey will last till April 30.

The Cenre has decided to create a National Population Register comprising all the usual residents in the country as a first step towards creation of a Nation Register of Indian Citizens. The register is being created under the provision of the Citizenship Act 1955 and Citizenship Rules, 2003. The main objectives are updating the existing NPR database by verifying the details of usual residents, seeding of Aadhaar / EID numbers (Enrollment Identity Number) in the NPR database and inclusion of new residents / households.

The commissioner said that the total population of the city as per the 2011 census was 67,31,790 in the GHMC jurisdiction. The total number of enumeration blocks is around 15,000.
