Hyderabad: The first day of the Lent season will be observed by Christians on Wednesday. Prayer services will be held in all churches across the city on account of Ash, which falls on Wednesday, and is the beginning of the 40-day fasting period of Lent.

As a mark of mourning and sacrifice, Christians restrain from eating meat, celebrations and other lifestyle habits. During these 40 days, many believers abstain from drinking alcohol and smoking.

The Lent season reflects the passion of Christ and ends with the holy week.

Good Friday falls on April 19 and subsequently on April 21, the resurrection of Christ will be celebrated as Easter Sunday.
