Bengaluru: Bharat Ratna awardee and eminent scientist Prof. C.N.R. Rao said that it is high time an atmosphere is created in educational institutions to promote 'innate' creativity and innovation among younger generations.

Addressing delegates at the inaugural Global Innovation Conclave to Strengthen the Future of Learning, Research and Work in the city, Prof. Rao said, “Good education and quality research are key to the future of mankind eventually driving innovation. The progress of any nation depends on innovation, and to drive that innovation, we need special curriculum or learning solution that facilitates young minds to think differently and to do things differently.” He said, “For a better India, educational institutes have to just identify creative minds, provide them with necessary facilities and opportunities to promote innovation, and encourage ideas, which should be the future of learning.”

The event, organised by Wiley - a global publishing company that specialises in research and education, brought together leaders of industry and academia to examine ways to bridge the skills gap and improve job readiness.

"With India's economy growing at an incredible rate and with the second largest population in the world, it's clear that we need to harness new technologies and equip students with the skills necessary that will allow them to excel in their future careers,” said Mr Vikas Gupta, MD, Wiley India.  He said that technology, such as artificial intelligence, is poised to greatly change the way people work and live. “The recent announcement of India's National 'AI for All' strategy implies such work has never been more important,” he said, referring to the interim Union budget.
