Khammam civic chief slapped with Rs 1 L fine

Hyderabad: A two-judge bench of Telangana High Court, comprising Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan and Justice Tukaramji, on Friday imposed costs of Rs 1 lakh on the Khammam municipal commissioner. A writ appeal was filed by Khammam Municipal Corporation against the order of a single judge. Some petitioners had filed a writ petition stating that the respondents were not paying compensation for acquiring houses. The bench observed that the collector of Khammam had made a recommendation to the state government to ratify the allotments and pay the compensation. That being the position, the writ petition was allowed by directing the principal secretary, MA&UD, to ensure that compensation was paid within eight weeks. But this remained unpaid. The bench further noted that the writ appeal was filed in a bonafide manner.

HC orders against licence to bar

Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy of the Telangana High Court directed the prohibition and excise department not to grant permission for a liquor licence unless a suitable NoC was taken from the landlord. In a writ plea, one Radhakrishna sought a declaration that the department’s move was illegal and also against renewal of the licence of Deccan Wine House and Amrit Bar in Putlibowli, Hyderabad. It was observed that the petitioner gave the premises on a five-year lease to the respondent and that unless an NoC is obtained from the landlord the bar licence shall not be renewed. In furtherance of the same, the court directed that the excise department must give sufficient opportunity to the bar and restaurant.

Plea against TSLPRB dismissed

A division bench of Telangana High Court, comprising Abhinand Kumar Shaveli and Justice Pulla Karthik, on Friday dismissed a writ appeal against the directions requiring Telangana State Level Police Recruitment Board (TSLPRB) to award one mark to all petitioners in respect of seven disputed questions irrespective of their options. Earlier, a single judge had issued an interim order at the instance of over 300 petitioners questioning the procedure followed for the recruitment of 15,644 posts, including constables.

Leave pigs alone, HC orders Peddapalli civic chief

Justice C.V. Bhasker Reddy of Telangana High court barred the commissioner of Peddapalli municipality from seizing pigs within the civic body’s jurisdiction . The writ was filed by Evalavya Seva Samithi, an organisation working for the rights and protection of the Erukala community. The petitioner challenged the action of the municipality in catching 200 pigs and seizing them. Counsel for the petitioner argued that without allocating land to house the pigs and rehabilitate members of the Erukula community, the municipality cannot catch pigs. Justice Bhasker Reddy said that the community had been dependent on rearing pigs for several generations. The government pleader argued that pigs were creating menace and they are potential transmitters of several communicable diseases.

State asked to explain refusal to file FIR

Justice B. Vijayasen Reddy of the Telangana High Court on Friday called upon the state government to give its status report on a complaint regarding a refusal to register a FIR and conduct of proper investigation. He was dealing with a writ petition filed by Adimalla Narasimha of Turkapally village in Nalgonda district complaining that the petitioner was the sole owner of agricultural lands in Turkapally, He was willing to transfer the same to his siblings but is receiving threats from third parties, which are warning of grabbing the properties.
