Hyderabad: Information technology firms in the city are gearing up to step in if needed to do the work of their counterparts in Chennai which has been badly affected by rain over the past couple of days. Some Hyderabad-based companies with operations in Chennai have asked their employees to avail of the work from home option to meet deadlines. Others are discussing plans to continue operations from different locations.

Telangana Information Technology Association president Sandeep Kumar Makthala said, “Companies are discussing the enabling business continuity plan (BCP)”. The BCP is strategy to continue operations from different locations if work is affected at one centre.

During the Chennai floods in 2015, several major IT companies activated the BCP. Mr Makthala said the burden was high on Hyderabad techies compared to those in other cities and the focus was one-sided. He told companies to keep in view the past experiences and be prepared by regularly monitoring weather changes. “Since the holiday season is commencing, the companies should offer employees their holidays now,” he said.
