Kochi: The High Court on Thursday included the chief electrical inspector of the Kerala Electricity Board Ltd in the incident in which two persons were killed when they came into contact with a snapped power cable in Thiruvananthapuram.

The court said that KSEBL officials concerned will be implicated in any such happenings in future.

The court had registered a suo motu case in connection with the incident. Stating that human lives are precious, it said that serious steps needed to be taken for not losing them.  Criticising the tendency of making an ex gratia payment, it asked what was the purpose of giving Rs 10 lakh as compensation to the family members of the dead person?

The government counsel and KSEBL informed the court that projects were being prepared for avoiding such mishaps. The court said the matter needs urgent attention and if needed expertise from outside should be solicited.
