NIZAMABAD: Few contesting candidates in ensuing Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC)  and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) polls have been facing a tough time in handling election expenses. A section of voters are reportedly expecting favours from the contesting candidates, especially from the TRS nominees.

During Assembly and Parliament elections, a few candidates from major political parties offered mutton and liquor to the voters, seeking votes.

The village-level leaders allegedly organised the liquor parties and distributed cash to individual voters or members of caste organisations.

On the same lines, few voters have been expecting similar sops in local body elections too.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, an MPTC candidate said, “They can bear minimum needs of various organisations in the villages. ZPTC members and MPP president post aspirants will help other candidates in the elections,” he said, on conditions of anonymity.

“It is a difficult task for candidates in reserved MPTC seats, but senior leaders will take care of this”, he opined.

Earlier, caste organisations, Village Development Committees, youth clubs and women’s Self-Help Groups were targeted by the candidates for votes.

Series of meetings were conducted to supporting a particular party or candidate. In view of this, few villages wore a festive look for more than 10 days prior to Assembly elections.
