Kadapa: Unseasonal rains, hails ruin crops

Almost 250 crores worth Banana and Mango orchards and other crops were damaged.

Kadapa: Unseasonal rains accompanied by hails caused damage to the horticulture farmers in Kadapa district.

Almost 250 crores worth Banana and Mango orchards and other crops were damaged. Farmers from Rajampeta, Railway Kodur, Pulivendula and Lingala mainly encountered a severe damage. The farmers invested lakhs of rupees to save the orchards,  but tornadoes ruined it.

Srinu, a farmer from Nallapureddypalli leased three acres of land and cultivated banana. He had invested Rs 4 lakh. The entire crop was ready to harvest. But the rains damaged the crop. Another farmer Sankara Reddy lost around 3,000 plants. A total of 1,449.6 hectares of crops belonging to 1,453 farmers were damaged, causing a loss of around Rs 2,170.9 lakh.
