Kochi: Smart city project takes off today

Open gyms at public parks in the state capital will be the first proposal to be implemented under the project.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The long-awaited Smart City project of the city corporation will take off in the state capital on Tuesday.  Local self government departm-ent minister A.C. Moidheen will launch the Smart City project at a function to be held on Tuesday here.

Open gyms at public parks in the state capital will be the first proposal to be implemented under the project. A top official of the project said that the project has been finalised and the work order will be issued immediately. Three public parks including Gandhi Park, Sree Chithira Thirunal Park, and Sreekandeswaram Park has been identified for the project. The plan is to install outdoor gym equipment which could be used by all.

A slew of other major projects under the scheme will follow the cue.  The official website of Smart City will also be launched on the occasion. Smart bus shelters, water kiosks, multi-level car parking are some of the other major infrastructure projects which will be implemented in the state capital as part of the Smart City Scheme.
