LED streetlights planned in Secunderabad Cantonment Board

Ten thousand streetlights in all the eight wards will be replaced with energy-saving lights.

According to a power ministry report, installation of 30 lakh LED streetlights has resulted in saving 39 crore KW of energy and has also reduced 3.29 lakh tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. (Representational image)

HYDERABAD: By February-end, all conventional streetlights in Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) will be transformed to LED lights. An agreement was signed between SCB and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) on Tuesday.

S.V.R. Chandrashekar, J. Ramakrishna and M. Rajkumar from SCB and Savithri Singh from EESL inked the pact. 

Ten thousand streetlights in all the eight wards will be replaced with energy-saving lights.

EESL will supply, install and maintain LED lights for the next seven years. SCB gets a monthly power bill of Rs 23-24 lakh, which is expected to fall by 50 per cent  after the installation of new streetlights.
