Kozhikode: PFI goes by CBI stand in Mohammad Fazal murder

Kozhikode: Popular Front of India (PFI) is not affected by the revelation of RSS worker Subeesh that it was Sangh Parivar which killed NDF worker Mohammad Fazal in Thalassery and he too was involved.

They feel the confession under duress cannot be taken at face value. Hence the organisation (formerly NDF) whose member was Fazal, goes by the CBI version that CPM conspired the murder.

“We can believe Subeesh if he had deposed before a magistrate. The said confession was in police custody, and there is no big deal. Until any tangible evidence emerges, we will go by the CBI account,” said PFI state president C. Abdul Hameed.

Mr Hameed added that PFI had not demanded a re-probe in the wake of the confession. At the same time, PFI hints that if any concrete evidence emerges strongly indicating the role of RSS, they will change the stand. “As of now, we are not convinced,” said Basheer V., PFI Kannur district president.

Sources say the video recording of the confession appears natural and doesn’t show any coercion. Also, there are reports that even before the admission during the grilling of Subeesh in the murder of a CPM worker a few months back, an audio clip had surfaced indicating the RSS role in Fazal murder. The said clip is learned to be the revelation of Mr Subeesh to another Parivar worker.

Meanwhile, CPM Kannur district secretariat member Karayi Rajan told DC that PFI was backing CBI as it would be difficult for them to change their long time stand and make their supporters believe otherwise. According to CBI charge sheet, Mr Rajan and another CPM leader Karayi Chandrasekharan are the eighth and seventh accused in the case.

A team of CBI intelligence wing had visited Thalassery on Tuesday exploring the possibility of a reinvestigation in the wake of the confession.
