Jagan promises relief to flood-affected areas

He assured them that all steps will be taken to prevent such floods in the future

TIRUPATI: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who visited the flood-affected areas in Chittoor and Nellore districts on Friday, assured the victims that the state government will ensure proper relief and rehabilitation measures.

On the second day of his two-day tour of the flood-affected Rayalaseema and Nellore districts, the chief minister took note of the devastation caused by the incessant rains and flash floods in Krishna Nagar and Saraswati Nagar here and interacted with the people.

The CM directed the officials to resolve the people’s grievances at the earliest. He asked district collector Harinarayanan to take special steps to create more employment opportunities for the youths who lost their livelihood due to the floods. The CM visited Vijaya Kumari of Saraswati Nagar, who was severely injured in a road accident. She had expressed desire to meet Jagan. He assured the woman of help from the government side. He later inspected the bridge over the Swarnamukhi river at Tiruchanoor-Padipeta, which was washed away during floods. Later, he visited a photo exhibition depicting the flood intensity in the MR Palle. He also took the view of women on the response of the officials to their plight during the floods and on compensation provided to them. The women thanked the CM for his support and told him that officials responded well and helped them during floods.

He assured them that all steps will be taken to prevent such floods in the future.

The CM later left for Nellore district for an inspection of the flood-affected areas there. He took a look at the damaged R&B road at Devarapalem and the Nellore-Mulumudi-Tatiparthi road in the Nellore Rural mandal. He also inspected the damaged Penna River embankment and crops at Jonnawada.
The CM also took stock of the damage to crops in Penuballi in Buchireddypalem mandal.

Jagan visited Bhagat Singh Nagar in Nellore city limits and viewed River Penna from NH-16. He interacted with flood victims in the colonies and inquired as to whether they received financial assistance. He said the state government would provide permanent housing to those who lost their houses due to floods.

Addressing the public at Bhagat Singh Colony, Jagan promised to sanction Rs 100 crore for construction of bunds across River Penna in Nellore by way of protection to the city from flooding. He also announced earmarking of Rs120 crore for the repair works of Apron at Somasila project.

Dy. CM Narayana Swamy, ministers Peddireddy, Srinivasulu, Anil Yadav, Mekapati Reddy, MPs  Midhun Reddy, Gurumoorthy, MLAs Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, Dr. Chevireddy Bhaskar, Biyyapu Madhusudhan, Sridhar Reddy and Nallapureddy Prasannakumar Reddy accompanied the CM during his visit to the flood-hit areas in Chittoor and Nellore districts.
