Vijayawada: The Vijayawada municipal council meeting witnessed some heated exchanged between TD and YSRC corporators on Saturday over a portrait of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in the Council hall.

Lashing out a mayor Koneru Sridhar over the portrait, YSRC corporators shouted slogans against him.

They alleged that the mayor took unilateral decisions like installation of the portrait and demanded a picture of former CM Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy be installed alongside.

With the commotion reaching fever pitch, the Mayor suspended YSRC corporators Bizan Bee, Pala Jhansi and Sandhya Rani for obstructing the council meeting.

This led to even more ruckus, with the remaining YSRC corporators demanding the mayor revoke the suspension orders. When this was refused, they decided to boycott the meeting. Later, they staged a protest in front of the council hall.

Journalists also boycotted the meeting, accusing the mayor of making unsavoury comments against them.

Incidentally, the council discussed the removal of hawkers who had encroached the Besant Road. The councillors said the encroachment by hawkers has become a problem for pedestrians, buyers and business people.
