Bengaluru: The central government’s decision to cut the excise duty resulted in prices of petrol and diesel dropping by Rs 2 per litre from Wednesday midnight. While petrol and diesel prices in B’luru were Rs 71.99 and Rs 59.25 per litre, the revised price will be Rs 69.99 and Rs 57.25, respectively.

The drop received a mix reaction. Pawan S., a creative writer at a radio station in the city, said commuters like him had no choice but to stay blind to the “ever-fluctuating” fuel prices in the city. “A considerable change in fuel prices used to take place once in three months, but now it occurs daily. I don’t think people pay attention to them now,” he said.

Ananthu Subhash, a travel expert, said the Centre’s decision is late. “Even when international crude oil prices plummeted, the government didn’t alter fuel prices. Even a slight increase in crude price leads to a great hike in our country,” he said.

Gayathri Menon, a bank employee, said, “The the Centre has broken all its promises and is the aam aadmi’s tormentor. This drop will surely be balanced with a hike somewhere else , making no change in the family budget.”
