Thiruvananthapuram: Heidi Saadiya breaks another glass wall
She took up the new career after passing out from Press Club Institute of Journalism last month.
Thiruvananthapuram: Heidi Saadiya, who made history becoming the first transwoman broadcast journalist in Kerala, says she wishes to pursue her education apart from television assignments.
On Monday, Saadiya, who switched gender three years back, reported India's second lunar expedition, the Chandrayaan- 2, on Kairali TV as an intern.
She took up the new career after passing out from Press Club Institute of Journalism last month. The intern got promoted as a news trainee due to her excellent performance.
"My parents supported very well during childhood, and that is the reason I could reach this position," she says.
"But unfortunately they no longer support me due to the social stigma attached to our sexuality."
She lamented stereotyping of transgender persons, ignoring their professional status, in the field of media and communications.
She is hopeful of convincing her parents someday about her success in her profession and her resolve to lead a normal life. "I have tried to prove many times that I am a true professional and someone who is leading a normal life. I still care for my parents even though they are not accepting me. But they will surely accept me one day," she told DC.
"For On her transformation, she said; "I always had the feeling of being a female trapped in a male body. Therefore I decided to undergo surgery in Bangalore three years ago. In a way that was also the realisation of my childhood dream."
