Kalaburagi: Barring Yadagir, the Congress has fared well in all the other districts of  Kalaburagi, Bidar and Raichur in the Hyderabad Karnataka region in the elections to the Urban Local Bodies (ULB). While the Congress is all set to come to power in five of the seven urban local bodies in these districts, it has lost to the BJP in Yadgir in three of its four assembly constituencies. As expected, the JD(S), which deliberately took a backseat in the elections in support of its coalition partner, the Congress, has not done well in the polls in H-K.

The Congress managed to win the Shahabad City Municipal Council (CMC) by bagging 18 of the 27 seats. Of the remaining, five were won by the BJP and three by independents. In Chittapur, the constituency of social welfare minister, Priyank Kharge, the Congress won 18  of the  23 seats, and the BJP the remaining five.  In Chincholi, it  bagged 12 seats of the 23 seats , the BJP, five, the  JD(S) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) one each and independents, four.

In Afzalpur, the Congress  bagged 16 seats, the BJP, five and the JD(S), one. In Aland, while the Congress and BJP won 13 seats each, the Congress is expected to come to power owing to its alliance with the JD(S), which has won one seat. The BJP performed well only in the TMCs of  Sedam and Jevargi, winning  13 in the former, and 17 in the latter. The Congress won 10 seats in Sedam and three  in Jevargi. The JD(S) too won three seats here. The Congress bagged 90 of the 175 seats in Raichur district,   clearly proving its dominance , while the BJP and JD(S) won 23 and 40 seats respectively. The independents  won in 22 wards.

The Congress is expected to come to power in Raichur muncipality despite winning only 11 seats as nine independents, most of whom are rebel Congressman , have reportedly agreed to back it. The BJP has won 12 seats and the JD(S), three here. The Congress has bagged 20 seats in the Sindhanur Town Muncipality, followed by the JD(S) with 11. The BJP did not win any here .
In Deodurga, the Congress has won 11 seats, the BJP, eight and the JD(S), three. In Lingasugur, the  Congress clearly has the upper hand with 13 seats as against the BJP’s two. The JD(S) and independents have won four each.

In Manvi, the Congress has won 13 of the 27 seats, followed by the JD(S) with eight. In Mudgal Muncipality, the Congress has bagged 14 seats, followed by the JD(S), which has won eight. The Congress has bagged eight in Hatti Town Panchayat, , leaving three for the JD(S) and two for independents.  Yadagir City Muncipality has been the BJP’s face saver as it has won in  16 of the 31 wards, the Congress, 11 and the JD(S), three. In Surpur, both  the BJP and Congress have fared equally well bagging 16 and 15 wards respectively.

The Congress has done well in Bidar too, bagging 14 of the 23 wards in Hallikhed Town Muncipality , leaving five for the BJP, three for the JD(S) and one for an independent. Interestingly, in one ward a BJP candidate  won by just one  vote against his Congress rival. But the Congress got its own back when its candidate in ward 21, won by one vote against the BJP. The BJP failed to open an account in Sindhanur and  Manvi Town Muncipalities and the Hatti Town Panchayat in the district.
