K Chandrasekhar Rao urges ITC to set up food processing units

Rao told the ITC management the establishment of food processing units would help farmers.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday asked food products major ITC to work in coordination with the government and establish food processing units on a large scale.

He was speaking with ITC chairman Sanjiv Puri, executive director Nakul Anand, senior officers Sanjay Singh and Usharani who met him at Pragathi Bhavan

Mr Rao told the ITC management the establishment of food processing units would help farmers get support price for their products and aid in the supply of quality food products to the people.

According to the Chief Minister's Office, Mr Puri informed Mr Rao that the construction of ITC's Rs 800 crore food processing plant at Manoharabad in Medak district was almost complete and would go on stream in two to three months. Mr Rao congratulated the officials for completing the plant in record time.

Mr Rao asked the ITC to take up the initiative of opening the AP Rayon factory in Mulugu district, to which the senior officials responded positively.
