Tardy flyover work, water logging chokes Ring Road

It's a nightmare for motorists heading towards Indiranagar, Koramangala.

The traffic police, however, blamed the ongoing Elevated Flyover project for the traffic gridlock.

Bengaluru: Lack of proper policing, elevated corridor project going at a snail’s pace and poor drain maintenance leading to water stagnation have ground traffic to a halt on the Intermediate Ring Road and near Sony junction in Koramangala. The right of way for vehicles has been reduced and traffic is choked.

Motorists heading towards Indiranagar, Ejipura, Koramangala, Koramangala BDA Complex and Madiwala complained that it took over one hour to cross the stretch on Friday.

The traffic police, however, blamed the ongoing Elevated Flyover project for the traffic gridlock.

After many complaints from motorists, additional traffic policemen and wardens were deployed on the stretch on Friday evening to streamline traffic, but it was of little help.

Rajguru, a resident of Koramangala, said, “Residents in these parts of the city are used to such traffic jams and Friday was no exception. There was a huge traffic jam across the locality and it was because of the Elevated Flyover project.”

But, commuters said that the police, aware of the flyover construction work, could have planned better, deployed more men and ensured better traffic movement. “Traffic jams take hours to clear. With the flyover construction work, they could have made some changes. At least timings of the traffic signals could have been changed as per traffic flow,” said Ajay S., a commuter.

A senior traffic police officer said that on Friday, most of the roads leading to Madiwala through Sony Junction and Koramangala BDA Complex witnessed heavy traffic jams.

“Apart from the flyover construction work, two-wheeler riders violate traffic rules and jump signals causing traffic jams. Our team will work on changing the timings of the traffic signal lights,” he said.
