The Telangana State Robotics Framework is a significant step towards promoting the growth of the robotics industry and will create opportunities for innovation and development, said Rama Devi Lanka, director, emerging technologies wing.

Hyderabad: The Telangana state government, which has brought out several sectoral policies and frameworks, will shortly announce the TS Robotics Framework (TSRF) with an aim to create a world-class robotics ecosystem and make the state a global hub for robotics design, testing and manufacturing.

The framework will focus on robotics in agriculture, healthcare, industrial automation and consumer applications.

“The Telangana State Robotics Framework is a significant step towards promoting the growth of the robotics industry and will create opportunities for innovation and development,” said Rama Devi Lanka, director, emerging technologies wing.

The TSRF will work on five key pillars — infrastructure access, business facilitation, research and innovation, skill development, and responsible deployment. To encourage start-ups and MSMEs in the robotics industry, Telangana will provide incentives similar to those outlined in the State Innovation Policy, ICT Policy, and Electronics Policy.

The government will set up a separate body, Telangana Robotics Innovation Centre (TRIC), that will implement the TSRF. This body will work with the start-up support systems like the T-Hub, WEHub, T-Works, TS Innovation Cell, Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge and Research and Innovation Circle of Hyderabad for taking research to the market.

Te TRIC will work the existing centres of excellence in artificial intelligence, additive manufacturing, cybersecurity, and e-waste apart from collaborating with industry, academia, and incubators for creating new opportunities for economic growth and job creation.

The government will be setting up a robo park equipped with testing facilities, co-working options, co-production, and manufacturing options. This will ease the concerns of procurement of components and customs clearance for robotics start-ups. Robotics companies can also benefit from Telangana’s AI Mission and Open Data Platform for data support.

Plans are also on to establish a robotics accelerator centre to facilitate start-ups with incubation, infrastructure, authorisation support, market insights, investor connect, mentorship, and advisory services.
