Thiruvananthapuram: Notwithstanding the controversy over Control Commission Report that rocked the CPI state conference in Malappuram, the election of state secretary on the last day of the conference on Sunday is likely to be problem- free. Incumbent secretary Kanam Rajendran is likely to be re-elected at the state council elections slated for the concluding day. Party leadership says under his stint, the party has gained independent strength in the state besides making a mark as a corrective force within the LDF by raising pro-people issues from time to time.

The state council elections will take place in the concluding session. While the norm is to have 20 per cent fresh members in the new committee, there is still no clarity as to how many new faces will be included. The CPI has 89 member council at the moment. The party is planning to increase the representation of women in the council.
