ANANTAPUR: In view of the upcoming general polls, the police have started concentrating on faction-hit villages to create awareness among the people to stay away from faction related rivalries in the district.

In addition to identifying the sensitive parts along with troublesome people, Anantapur SP GVG Ashok Kumar initiated a strategy to involve women in awareness drives to expose the adverse impact of faction rivalries in the villages.

Speaking about the role of women, the SP observed that women could play a key role to stop the family members from getting involved in such activities. “Our teams were asked to make women aware about previous incidents and issues by briefing them about victim families and those who incurred major losses during factional feuds. Hundreds of families had suffered physically, mentally and financially during previous instances,” he said and added that 281 gram sabhas and palle nidras were being held since the last one month.

The police department records say about 1207 sensitive villages of both factions and other troublesome areas have been identified based on previous history.
The police teams of concerned mandals were frequently inspecting villages to ensure law and order, SP Ashok Kumar said. He also observed that police teams would act stringently on any kind of faction related instances and violence in the villages.

The faction zone teams at sub divisions, circles and station levels were purely working on faction-hit areas and villages to sense any untoward situation, SP Ashok Kumar added.
