Hyderabad: With lakhs of TRS supporters attending the Pragathi Nivedhana Sabha at Kongara Kalan, there was a huge traffic jam on the Outer Ring Road (ORR). Around 10,000 vehicle were stranded for long hours.

Even after Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao reached the venue at about 6.15 pm and started addressing the gathering after about half an hour, dozens of vehicles carrying party activists coming from different villages and cities were stranded at the Outer Ring Road (ORR) .

All the supporters who couldn’t make it through the traffic were left fretting and fuming. Around 7,300 RTC buses, apart from thousands of school buses and private vehicles were deployed to bring supporters from all across the state.

Though the traffic police gave out a traffic advisory, the traffic at Outer Ring Road went out of gear. Hyderabad police tweeted, “Slow movement of traffic on ORR. Prefer alternate routes.”  But there was no alternate route mentioned in the tweet.

Mr Satish, one of the commuters who was on his way to the airport, said, “It is waste of money and resources. On top of that, it is also causing inconvenience to the people who were commuting.”

The situation in different areas worsened due to VIP movement and police blocking traffic to create a corridor for their smooth passage especially in Begumpet.

“Heavy traffic from Rasoolpura Junction, Prakashnagar, Chikoti Garden, HPS, Lifestyle, Greenlands, Monappa towards Panjagutta NFCL road. Due to Rally for Pragathi Nivedhana Sabha Meeting,” tweeted the Hyderabad traffic police in the afternoon.
