Vijayawada: The incessant rainfall over the past few days has taken a heavy toll on the city roads.

The rainfall has led to drains overflowing and sewage flowing on the roads. On almost every road, citizens are seen trying to avoid getting their feet dirty by stepping into a puddle of water.

It appears that Christurajpuram has been hit the hardest, if one goes by the extent of damage to the roads. The road has become so bad that even a minor lapse of concentration is leading to two-wheeler drivers falling and getting injured.

Most of the roads have the top layer of tar washed away. In areas like Siddhartha School and Patamata, the underground cables and pipes have been exposed.

With the top layer of the road washed away, the jagged edges of rocks are exposed, posing a very real threat to the safety of passersby.

Sewage water still flowed over the Pinnamaneni Poly Clinic Road and at Autonagar, despite the municipal staff working at a feverish pace to drain the area. This is a recurring problem, visible every time it rains.

Benz Circle was not to be left out of the picture; water stagnation was visible across the locality. Jammi Chettu too saw pedestrians and commuters trying their best to cover the stretches unscathed.

Similar scenes were visible at Autonagar Gate Road, leaving the BSNL office, APIIC office and Industrial Infrastructure Local Authority office inundated.

Municipal commissioner V. Prasanna Venkatesh said that they were working on a permanent solution to the inundation problem at Autonagar with the help of the APIIC.
