Karnataka High Court quashes BBMP contract for 565 auto tippers
The BBMP had in January 2018 called for tenders to purchase auto tippers at a cost Rs 36 crore.
Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday quashed a short-term tender invited by Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike for procurement of 565 auto tippers for door to door collection of garbage in the city, citing violation of rules.
While partly allowing the petition filed by Chamundi Motors, which had moved the court challenging that palike was not transparent in its tender process, the court quashed the tender.
The court has quashed the tender on the ground that it was not issued in accordance with the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurements Act.
The court also orally observed that collection of solid waste in a city like Bengaluru is not a small task and it is a matter of serious concern.
The BBMP had in January 2018 called for tenders to purchase auto tippers at a cost Rs 36 crore.
The court has also reserved the liberty to BBMP Commissioner or competent officer to proceed in the matter and act afresh in accordance with law.
