Bomb hoax at south Delhi school, students evacuated

A caller had phoned the school and claimed that a bomb had been planted in its premises.

New Delhi: Students and staff of Modern School in south Delhi's Vasant Vihar were evacuated on Thursday after a caller claimed that a bomb had been planted in the school which later turned out to be a hoax.

According to Delhi Fire Services officials, the call was received around 1.15 PM following which teams were sent to the school and students and teachers were evacuated. Bomb disposal squads inspected the premises thoroughly.

Around 2.50 PM, Delhi Police declared it a hoax call.
 Police were trying to trace the caller.

A police source said that the call was received on one of the landlines, following which the school authorities informed the police. Soon, the school was locked down and students evacuated through one gate.

"A bomb call was received regarding modern school vasant vihar. ACP & SHO with staff at school. All evacuated with help of teachers and students. Anti-sabotage check being undertaken to trace device if any. So far situation is normal (sic)," DCP (South Delhi) Prem Nath tweeted around 2.30 PM.
