Hyderabad: Can Army close Ramakrishnapuram road?

GHMC questions military's authority to block road, asks defence officer for papers.

It said the decision on opening or closure of roads will be taken after getting feedback from the Local Military Authority on whether roads can be opened for civil traffic completely, selectively or as in the past said the order.

Hyderabad: With the Local Military Authority blocking the service road to the south of the Ramakrishnapuram flyover for over a year, the GHMC has asked the Defence Estates Officer for evidence to show that the Army was empowered to do so. The Army had built a wall across the road.

The DEO has not responded to the request made by the GHMC’s Enforcement, Vigilance and Disaster Management (EV & DM) authority more than one and a half months ago.

When contacted, an EVDM officer said, “We have asked them to provide details on whether they had permission to construct the wall and whether they followed any procedure. We haven't received any reply from them. We need to explore the details of ownership before taking a decision.”

The closure of the road has been causing traffic chaos at the flyover, the junction is narrow cannot accommodate too many vehicles at a time.

Residents had given a representation to the EV & DM in September, following which the department has requested the Defence Estates Officer for the details of the walled construction, but in vain.

Mr C.S. Chandrashekar, Federation of Northeastern Colonies of Secunderabad (FNECS), said, “We hope that the information will be provided by the Defence Estates Office as soon as possible, and the blockage on this important artery will be removed immediately.”

The letter also asked the DEO to provide the following:

1. Ownership documents
2. Permission for constructing the wall across the  service road
3. Permission for erection of blue tin sheets on the  flyover
4. Land acquisition details by R&B /revenue Department
5. Other related  documents
