Hyderabad: 1,426 drivers caught drunk driving in October

Hyderabad: A total of 1,426 drivers were caught red-handed for drunken driving in October. Local courts jailed 449 of them and permanently cancelled the licence of 10 violators.

According to the police the highest number of violators — 184 — were jailed for two days. Another five were jailed for one month. A total of 69 driving licences have been suspended temporarily. The 3rd and 4th Metropolitan Magistrate Courts, Nampally, imposed fines of Rs 31 lakh on the remaining 977 traffic violators. All the candidates who were sentenced for imprisonment were sent to Chanchalguda Jail.

Another 32 violators were jailed. ACP Traffic, Anil Kumar said, “The respondents caught and convicted for drunken driving may face difficulty in getting government jobs, passport and visa clearance.”

“The violators who committed the offences were also counselled at TTI, Goshamahal and Begumpet. The drive against drunken driving and other violations will continue for the safety of the commuters on road,”, added Mr Kumar.
