New Delhi: Controversial preacher Zakir Naik’s NGO, Islamic Research Foundation, will soon be banned from receiving foreign funding as home ministry has now sent a notice to the organisation for cancelling its registration under the Foreign Contribution Regulations Act.

The home ministry has also initiated the process for bringing another NGO of Zakir Naik called IRF Educational Trust under the prior permission category which would prevent the organisation from getting any foreign donations without getting approval from the Centre.

Sources said the decision has been taken after investigations carried out by multiple security agencies revealed that the IRF was using the donations for allegedly radicalising youth and “inspiring’’ them for terror activities.

Home ministry’s foreigners division has inadvertently renewed IRF’s FCRA licence in September following which five officers, including a joint secretary level official were placed under suspension, said official sources.
