Bengaluru: Speeding lorry knocks down 43-year-old pedestrian

The deceased has been identified as Venkatarathnam, a resident of Jalahalli and a plumber.

A Class X student and pillion rider on his way to appear for Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination, which commenced on March 15, was killed in a road accident on NH-16 stretch near Tallapalem area under Kasimkota police station limits in Vizag district on Thursday.

Bengaluru: Two people died in separate road accidents in Yeshwantpur and Jalahalli traffic police station limits since Saturday morning.

A 43-year-old pedestrian died after a speeding lorry knocked him down while he was crossing the road on Friday night in Jalahalli traffic police station limits.

The deceased has been identified as Venkatarathnam, a resident of Jalahalli and a plumber. The police said that  the accident happened around 9:45 pm.

The passerby immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he was declared brought dead. The police said the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled.

Courier boy dies
In another accident, a 23-year-old courier delivery boy died on spot after the courier vehicle, in which he was travelling, met with an accident while trying to overtake a lorry near Goraguntepalya signal, in Yeshwantpur traffic police station limits, early Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Kiran, a resident of Nelamangala and a native of Tumakuru. The driver, G Manucharan, 22, a resident of Nelamangala, sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital. The police said Kiran was working with DTDC.

According to the police, the two were transporting parcel to their office. Around 4:45 am, they reached near Goraguntepalya signal and when Manucharan tried to overtake a lorry, he lost control over the vehicle and rammed into the truck from left side. 

Kiran, who was sitting on the left side, died instantly due to severe injuries. The passerby immediately alerted the police who rushed to the spot and shifted the driver to a nearby hospital.
