Dr G Parameshwar calls for strict norms to curb air pollution
Parameshwar said the government was committed to implement a robust air quality management plan for the city.
Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwar on Wednesday stressed on the need to have stringent legislation to control air pollution failing which the future generation would suffer.
After inaugurating the first official meeting of the new C-40 City Air Quality Network, a global effort to tackle air pollution in urban areas across the world, here on Wednesday, Parameshwar said the government was committed to implement a robust air quality management plan for the city by providing both financial and government resources.
The network, led by Bengaluru and London, brings together experts and policy makers from cities around the world to develop solutions to the global threat of toxic air pollution.
Representatives from Berlin, Chennai, Dar-es-Salam, Delhi, Johannesburg, Los Angeles, Portland, Quito, Salvador, Tel Aviv and Warsaw attended the meeting besides those from Bengaluru and London.
London Deputy Mayor Shirley Rodrigues called on Mr Parameshwar in his office and discussed problems related to the city and suggested to prepare a plan with regard to garbage disposal, traffic management and pollution control so that the government could implement it at the earliest.
