Cyber Towers Metro work begins

Hyderabad: Metro works have begun in Hitech city as Cyber Towers compound has been partially demolished for the construction of two metro piers. While work for pillar one is under progress, the foundation for other pillar has been opened which is expected to be completed in three months. Due to the steep turn at Cyber Towers, it would be an engineering feat to construct the piers.

On one side, there is Cyber Towers and on the other side, there is a flyover and in between these, the metro needs to pass which has to be negotiated cautiously for the left turn to be taken. 

Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) held negotiations with representatives of Cyber Towers. Without acquiring land from them, the metro pillars are being laid near footpath. Two piers will be at the Cyber Towers compound.

“We will compensate them because their track way and compound wall is getting disturbed due to the construction. We will restore it once the two pillars are done. We are going ahead without acquiring their land and will let them keep their land as it is,” HMRL MD N.V.S Reddy said.

The next pier is across the road where Metro will cross the flyover. Since cantilever cannot take the load and stress at the centre alone, a portal structure is being setup. One column will be on the ramp of the flyover in centre, while the other at footpath. On the portal beam, the metro viaduct will run.

“We will initially widen the flyovers’ ramp portion on both sides as the column will be setup in the middle of the flyover. This whole thing is being done carefully as it is a difficult engineering structure. After a few metres, the piers will come into the central median,” he said.

The technical measurements have been taken and preparatory work at the flyover is under progress. In the next three months, the piers at Cyber Towers will be completed. Considering the traffic constraints, HMRL will be constructing one pillar after the other. Currently the U-turn at Raheja has been closed to cater to the Metro works and the next U-turn is just before biodiversity junction.
