Notices to Telangana, AP on power towers
Bench issued notices to the Chief Secretaries of both the states and transmission corporations directing them to file counter affidavits.
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday asked the governments of AP and TS to respond to a taken up case on non payment of compensation to farmers despite installing electricity towers on their agriculture fields.
A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice J. Uma Devi was dealing with the case taken up based on a letter by social activist P. Chengal Reddy to the Chief Justice of the High Court seeking the court’s intervention.
In his letter, Mr Reddy told the court that the transmission companies have been denying the compensation to hundreds of farmers in both the states from 2003 in violation of the Electricity Act, 2003.
He submitted that it was also in violation of Works of Licensees Rules, 2006 of the Centre and also the AP Works of Licensees Rules, 2007.
