OOTY: ‘A minor landslip at Marappalam sector along the Ooty-Coimbatore NH paralysed traffic for two hours on Thursday morning as Southwest monsoon rains have begun to shower the hills.

The heavy downpour in Coonoor-Marappalam slopes on Wednesday night gave enough indication for a good rainy season ahead this year.

However, the overcast sky, drizzle and occasional good precipitation on Thursday in Ooty and its surroundings indeed heralded the typical SW monsoon that in fact cheered the hill residents as Nilgiris saw deficit monsoon rains both during SW and Northeast monsoon last year.

On Thursday morning, a minor landslip that occurred at Marappalam area along Ooty-NH saw huge mass of soil along with uprooted trees and boulders coming down the slopes and blocked the road.
