Kids complain against parents for education

VIJAYAWADA: Two teenage children lodged a complaint against their parents on Wednesday under Veeravalli police station limits in Krishna district, saying their parents were not allowing them do schooling. The children, aged 11 and 12, also said they were being harassed by their parents. The father of the two, Md. Akram, forced his daughter Shannu to work as a housekeeper and forced his son Md. Siddique to engage himself as a mechanic. The parents got angry over the complaint to police and said they now wanted to disown these children.

Akram and his wife Sharmila had been fighting with each other for a long time. Akram, who was an auto rickshaw driver, has been addicted to playing cards. Though Sharmila worked as a teacher in a private school, she also forced the children to stop schooling, said sub-inspector B. Murali Krishna, of Veeravalli. The children, who were keen on education, desperately searched for an opportunity for their studies, but in vain. The kids escaped multiple times from their parents to their maternal grandfather Vinjamuri Ranga Rao, who ran a hotel at A. Seetarampuram village. But, Akram went there and brought the kids to his house and started harassing, police said.

The children approached the police and sought help for their education and freedom from harassment. Police, in turn, contacted the district child welfare officials. Gannavaram CDPO V. Swarupa Rani said the parents of the kids declined to accept them back home. Cops would place the kids in the government-run social welfare hostels in the district if none of the relatives were ready to adopt them. Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi Mohan announced that he would meet the education expenditure of the children till they completed their higher education. Meanwhile, the children urged the police not to harass their parents in the name of their complaint.
